Philosophy
At Atlas Counseling, we believe in the autonomy of the individuals we are privileged to work with. Our therapists understand that you are the expert of your lived experiences. We will support you in gaining relief from discomfort, life stressors and relational frustrations.
We firmly believe that an important foundation of quality psychotherapy begins with a healthy relationship between client and therapist. While we recognize that you know yourself best, we take responsibility for building a personalized system of psychotherapeutic care that will work best for each individual.
We believe that emotional discomfort and events described as problems are rooted in the person’s interactions, not the self of the person. These interactions involve family, friends and larger social systems such as culture, criminal justice system, and educational systems. This means we don’t assume there is something wrong with you. Instead, we work toward your therapeutic goals through meaningful exploration of your lived experiences.
